How "UPPER's take" works
This is our own take, not customer reviews. We score 1 to 5 hearts on five things: how good it is for under-3s, shade, seating, restrooms, and how easy it is with a stroller. We only rate places where we could check those facts. Public ratings and parent quotes are shown word for word, with a link to where we read them.

Things to watch out for
- Restrooms close early in fall: at SF Rec & Park sites like Cow Hollow, restrooms close at 5:30 PM in fall and winter.
- Layers: fog rolls in fast. Bring a warm layer for you and the baby even on a sunny morning.
- Not every playground is fenced. If you have a runner, pick an enclosed one like Sue Bierman, Paddock or Totland.
- Weekend crowds and street parking at popular parks like San Pablo in Berkeley. Weekday mornings are calmer.
